The Ferrari F40 is the last car that was signed by Enzo himself, before he passed away. It is a very special series from Ferrari, as it continues the heritage from 250 GTO and 288 GTO. It contains a Twin Turbo V8 Engine, 5-speed manual, carrying a 471 HP and it goes 0 – 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, and for a car in the 80s, for sure it is one hell of a rocket.
The F40’s lifetime was from 1987 to 1992. At first it was only going to be produced for 399 units, but ended up with more than 1200 units produced. Today, the price of Ferrari F40 is up to $1.5 million, and the price will keep increasing. It is for sure one of the best Ferrari creation ever; a beautiful mix of design and hardcore engine.
Window: The F40 Lightweight Windows have a racing acrylic / plastic window. It opens slides side ways. The only scale from Kyosho F40 Lightweight that can be open and close is only the 1:12 scale, for the 1:18 scale F40 lightweight the window is opens, and for the 1:43 scale the window is completely closed.
Headlight: As you know, the F40 have a very attractive old school flip light; those flip lights shows people that sport cars with flips light in its 80s and 90s era, is for sure a fast sport car. As for the F40, is no doubt at all, it’s beautiful in design, and it’s a fast well-engineered machine. With Kyosho, only the 1:12 and 1:18 F40 Lightweight can flip its light by pressing a button under the F40’s front hood.
Rear Light: The Kyosho ferrari f40 1 12 and 1:18 have a similar rear light, it both have a bright orange / yellow turn light and bright red break light, while the 1:43 scale F40 lightweight have a dark smoked rear light for both the red and orange / yellow light. Also, above the license plate and grill, the 1:12 and 1:18 have 2 small license plate light, while the F40 have none.
License Plate: The one 1:12 and 1:18 F40 Lightweight has the “F40” License Plate, while the 1:43 is just a plain grill with no license plate, as if it just comes out from the factory.
Engine Hood: All the engine hood have a stick to hold the engine hood up and open. But for this, we it’s the 1:12 and 1:43 who have the similar kind of stick, which is the folded stick at the rear of the engine, besides the exhaust, and folded. The only difference between the 1:12 and the 1:43 ones is that, we can actually opens and use the folded stick to hold our engine hood, as for the 1:43 is just for a detailed decoration that cannot be use. As for the 1:18, Kyosho prepares a hood stick to hold the engine hood opens, and they prepared it in the box, not in the car, so it’s a separate part.
Front Hood: All 3 different scales can open its front hood. Inside the front hood, Ferrari prepares a small grey bag, and for the 1:12 and 1:18 scale, both have a dark grey bag, while for the 1:43 it have a light grey bag.
Exhaust: F40 maybe is the only car or one of the only few cars in the 80s who have 3 mufflers, maybe back then, it is also a sign that the more muffler you have the faster your car goes. The 1:43 scale exhaust is leveled with the bumper, while the kyosho ferrari f40 1 18 and 1:12 exhaust is a bit more pop out of the bumper.
Gear Stick: For the gear stick, only the 1:12 that can be moved, as for the other 2 scales, is a dead fear stick.
The small details that we can detect is, the fuel tank lit, only the 1:12 scale can be open and close. Also, in the interior, the sun visor for the 1:12 and 1:18 scale, can be moved up an down / open and close. As for the 1:43, it have a sealed door. Inside the door panel, it is both empty panel because they get rid of the panel to reduce the car’s weight. Also, on the Left driver’s door, there is a folded book. With the 1:18 there is a cable inside the empty panel, and the 1:12 it is totally clean.
The last special thing for the 1:12 scale is, they have a special key to open the wheels bolt; that’s the benefit for making the big scale, the bigger the scale the more detail there will be in the car. But between 1:12 and 1:18 scale, not much difference with the detail. We are very impressed with Kyosho’s work on the F40, they really pull it off with this model. A special diecast for a special car.
